Best Remote Work Locations in Port Angeles, Washington

Port Angeles is an outdoor paradise nestled between endless ocean and mountains. It’s one of the few places you can surf, hike, and snowboard all in one day. After relocating here, I knew I wanted to give back to my outdoor and remote work communities by making the remote work guide I wish existed for every small town I visit. So grab a coffee, charge your laptop, and lets chat about where to work remote in my favorite little adventure town.

Coffee Shops

Like any Pacific Northwest town, Port Angeles has an abundance of coffee shops. The following are a small selection of my favorites based on their internet access, facilities, and overall vibe.

The Coffee Box

224 East First St. Port Angeles, WA

The Coffee Box is part of StormKing Athletic Club and has a classic PNW leather and wood vibe that’ll make you feel right at home. There’s plenty of seating with tables and a secret upstairs balcony with ocean views. In addition to strong coffee they have protein smoothies, pastries, and paninis. The free guest internet is usually reliable but there is also strong cell coverage making it easy to hotspot if needed. There are lots of wall outlets but the majority of seats with higher tables are in the center of the café so it’s worth bringing a battery pack if you have one. They generally play country music at a soft volume, but the coffee shop is directly connected to the Athletic Club so you sometimes hear the loud clang of weights or workout music through the open doors.

Bella Rosa Coffee

403 S Lincoln St, Port Angeles, WA

Bella Rosa is near downtown, generally quiet enough to take conference calls, and has lots of small tables to work from. The coffee shop has an understated vibe but is one of the few shops in town providing reliably strong wifi if you don’t want to or can’t hotspot. Although they have an assortment of pastries it’s the sweet and savory crepes that are a favorite among locals. The crepes are larger than expected, stuffed with toppings, and beyond delicious. It can get busy during the summer, but I find most people stop in and leave so if you wait a little bit tables will open up. Compared to other coffee shops listed here, they stays open late (typically until 6pm) making it a good location if you want to hunker down all day.

Silver Lining Cafe

115 E Railroad Ave suite108, Port Angeles, WA

Silver Lining Café is inside the Port Angeles Wharf Building and has a whimsical combination of ocean views and tropical plants. This cafe has the most convenient location. It’s connected to the city pier for whale watching, a block from downtown shops, and a minutes walk to Hollywood Beach for paddle boarding. Their staff are very friendly and there’s a mix of table and bar seating available. They offer a selection of delicious breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, and other baked treats. (Bonus tip: After work walk down the hall to Welly’s for the best ice cream in town). The cafe offers free Wave wifi (about ~80 mbps download and ~20 mbps upload) and if the wifi drops there is good cell coverage to hotspot. Outlets are a bit limited but there are outlet strips available along the North facing window wall.

Downtown Parking

Want to work from the back of your van or adventure rig? To get a reliable cellular connection to hotspot you’ll want to be near the downtown core of Port Angeles. Although there are multiple free 3+ hour parking lots in town, the best parking spots with a view are along W Railroad Avenue (Bonus tip: stop in Barhop Brewing for a beer and artisanal pizza after work) and Marine Drive. Both of these locations prohibit overnight parking so you’ll need to relocate at the end of the day.

The Best View

This list wouldn’t be complete without an honorable mention for the best view. If you’re seeking that iconic shot of working by the ocean you’ll want to park on Ediz Hook. As you become one with the local seagull flock you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Port Angeles harbor and the Strait of Juan De Fuca. You can even see Mount Baker and Vancouver Island on clear days. Parking spots are plentiful but picnic tables are not. Internet coverage varies by service provider but you can typically get a reliable mobile hotspot. For example, my Verizon mobile hotspot typically gets ~75 mbps download and ~45 mbps upload. Overnight parking is prohibited on the hook, but it’s a dreamy day time destination.

Nearby Coworking Spaces

There are no coworking spaces in Port Angeles, but if you’re craving that stability and infastructure our neighbor town Sequim (~30 mins drive away) is home to Calallam Coworking and Locally Known. Both these spaces offer single day and longterm passes depending on how long you’re in town.
